Trusting in verbal communications for contractual agreements and
day-to-day business proceedings is not wise.
Emphasize on the engagement – no matter how close you may think you are
with the person you are embarking on a venture with – put it in writing.
Create contracts for your clients detailing your agreements and have them date + sign.
This provides a clear record of what was agreed upon
and allows you to have a document to fall back on to prevent future
misunderstandings or disputes.
If you can’t create some sort of a signed deal memo,
be as concise as possible in all written communications
(texts, emails, letters, etc.) to detail the communications.
On a daily basis:
Write. Everything Down.
Have you ever had a restaurant server take your order by memory
just to result in zero accuracy?
Let that be a lesson.
Take notes on your conversations and to-dos.
Ensure that you are sending out detailed emails/texts with the proper,
“Who, What, When, Where, and Why.” in the body in order to easily backtrack.
The “Search” function and keyword are your friends.
Relying on your memory is not a flex, its foolish.
